With the recent disaster that affected our country,
one might agree that the perfect way of springing back to our feet is by letting
the rest of the world know we are here and ready for business. Without a doubt,
the best way to achieve this is through extensive promotion of our still
unspoiled paradise - Belize. Ceci Lara, a charming island
beauty, has been given the opportunity to help boost Belize's tourism economy by
representing us in the upcoming pageant, Miss Turismo Centro America 2000.
Twenty four year-old Ceci departs for Panama on November 15th to meet with six other contestants from
Central America. Besides competing, these young women will spend a week
promoting their native countries' tourism industry. Joining Miss Lara will be
representatives from Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and
Nicaragua. Ceci received this recent invitation to represent Belize from the
Belize Hotel Association (BHA) and has been busy preparing for the pageant ever
since. She has already filmed a promotional video, requested by pageant
organizers, which introduces her as Belize's candidate and gives viewers a
sample of the natural wonders that exist in our country. The seven-minute video,
prepared by Promotional Marketing Video in Belize City, will air in Panama
before the pageant. Upon Ceci's arrival to Panama, she and the other contestants
will participate in a four-day film session to be broadcast on Central American
channels. Film "shoots" will take place in locations such as Valle de Anton,
Coronado Resort, Hotel Melia Colon and Gamboa Rainforest Resort. The pageant will be conducted in Spanish and will
consist of preliminary judging of the girls in cultural wear on a special night
known as Noche Centroamericana on November 21st. Pageant night will take place November
22nd. The girls will appear
in swimsuit and formal wear followed by a question and answer
session. Ceci, born in San Pedro to parents Norma and Tuly
Lara, is no stranger to beauty pageants. This five foot, seven inch tall beauty
with measurements of 34-29-34 is a graduate of San Pedro High and presently
works as a receptionist. She won the title of Miss San Pedro Lions in 1994 and
went on to win the title of Miss Lions District 59 in 1994-1995. She was also an
outstanding Miss San Pedro during her reign in 1996 and a Miss Estereo Amor
Isleña in 1997. Ceci, a "natural" on stage, is also one of the founding members
of the San Pedro Dance Company and recently helped coordinate the Miss San Pedro
pageant. Miss Lara told the San Pedro
Sun that, by attending this event, she hopes to learn more
about pageants so she can instruct other young ladies interested in
participating in national and international pageants. As a representative of
Belize she hopes to add her grain of sand in the promotion of her beautiful
homeland. While in Panama, Ceci will be accompanied by Ms.
Maria Otera, General Manager of the Radisson Fort George. BHA is providing all
of Ceci's traveling and wardrobe expenses. She returns from Panama on November
23 rd. Please join the San Pedro Sun in wishing Ceci Lara the best of luck
in this event.
