The
newly formed San Pedro Scouts Association held a special ceremony last Friday to
formally install twenty-two members. Hundreds of students from San Pedro Roman
Catholic School congregated at Central Park to witness the revival of this
organization in San Pedro. Councilor Omar Arceo served as Master of Ceremonies
for this occasion that brought together many great scout leaders from Belize.
These included Chief Scout Julian Castillo, National President of the Scout
Association of Belize Dr. Erasmo Franklin, Zone 1 Field Executive Nayari Diaz,
Zone 2 Field Executive Orlando Garcia, Court of Honor Commissioner Leo Cuellar,
National Program Commissioner Nephtalie Palma and Executive Commissioner
Hilberto Riveroll. Heading the San Pedro Scout Association are Scout Leader
Charlene Cain, Assistant Scout Leaders Hermojenes Acosta and Oscar Vidal, and
volunteer Orlando Guerrero. The official ceremony came to
a start with the singing of the Belizean national anthem led by Miss Nathalie
Arceo. An invocation in English followed by Pastor Ian Saldivar and one in
Spanish by Lay Minister Lucio Guerrero. Welcoming the large gathering to Central
Park was Assistant Scout Leader Oscar Vidal. Guest Speaker John Greif III then
addressed the prospective scouts recapping his experience as a scout. Dr. Erasmo
Franklin took the opportunity to commend the scout leaders of San Pedro and
congratulated the parents of the children joining the organization for
supporting this worthy group that helps to build a nice, clean community. He
continued, saying the scouts association is all about integrity, loyalty and
lending a helping hand to fellow brothers and sisters. Chief Scout Julian
Castillo then addressed the crowd, taking them back in time by recalling his
camping days in San Pedro as part of the Belize Scouts Association. He
challenged the children to continue in the footsteps of all great scouts. He
ended by saying, "Long live Scouting. Long live San Pedro. Long live Scouting in
San Pedro." Miss Nayari Diaz performed the
investiture ceremony of the new San Pedro Scout Leaders followed by the official
installation of the twenty-two scouts who were accompanied by their parents.
Barbara's Dance Group then entertained, followed by a congratulatory speech by
Area Representative Patty Arceo. Assistant Scout Leader Hermojenes Acosta
presented the visiting scout dignitaries with a souvenir before a vote of thanks
was given by Scout Leader Charlene Cain. After the formal
ceremony, the newly installed scouts, parents and invited guests were treated to
snacks and drinks. Congratulations to the leaders and the members of the San
Pedro Scout Association.
