During his thirteen years of experience in the service, seven years were spent
as the health inspector for Corozal Town. Previous to that, he worked in Belize
City and also for short periods of time in Stann Creek, Punta Gorda and San
Ignacio. As health inspector, Mr. Alpuche's duties, he
explained, include overall food sanitation, supervision of ambulant vendors,
ensuring that food premises are in good condition and kept clean; basic
sanitation (solid or liquid waste); water quality control; inspection of damaged
and expired products in retail stores; investigation of complaints regarding
health nuisances and establishing an effective rabies control program. Mr.
Alpuche mentioned that in the short period of time he has been on the island he
has already noticed some areas of concern. He says he will first evaluate the
present situation and list possible solutions.
Mr.
Alpuche is married and the father of two sons: one six and the other, three
years old. "San Pedro is a very nice place. The people I have met are very
friendly and I hope to count on their support to carry out my every day duties.
Although the lifestyle here is different than in my hometown, I hope to be able
to make a difference here," stated Mr. Alpuche.
