The country of
Belize is well known for its beautiful women. Next Friday evening, San
Pedro beauty Isela Duran will represent "La Isla Bonita" in competition
for the prized title of Miss Belize 2003.
A resident of the island for the past two years, Miss
Duran majored in business at St. John's College (SJC), and studied
cosmetology at Capital College in Omaha, USA. This 23 year-old
businesswoman has a background in biology, chemistry and computers. She
plans to own her own cosmetology business someday.
Isela Duran is not only educated, but also has pageant
experience. She entered her first pageant in college, competing for the
title Miss SJC, and was also crowned Miss Belize City Lions Queen in
1998. In addition to competing in these pageants, she is also featured in
this year's Belikin Swimsuit Calendar.
A native of Belize City, Miss Duran's interests
include becoming a dive instructor, reading suspense
novels and
styling hair.
In regards to competing, Miss Duran states she was greatly
influenced by her father, who was very supportive and let her know that
she "could do anything" if she "put her mind to it."
The Miss Belize Pageant Committee Chairwoman, Carolyn
Sandiford-Tench only recently informed Miss Duran, that she was nominated
to participate in this year's pageant. She is currently seeking
sponsorship for the event and may be contacted at 226-4660. Selection is
based on appearance, education, eloquence and past experience in beauty
pageants. The Miss Belize pageant will be held Friday, June
27 th, 2003 at the
Belize City Center.
