The Ministry of Tourism (and now Youth) is pleased to announce several
key management appointments. Mrs. Valerie Woods-Smith, previously
Director of Tourism, has been promoted to Acting Permanent Secretary of
the Ministry, effective immediately.
Promoted to the position of Director of Tourism at the
Belize Tourism Board is the current Deputy Director of Marketing and
Public Relations, Tracy Taegar. With twelve years of tourism experience
in both public and private sectors, Ms. Taegar brings with her the
expertise which will not only guide tourism development but also provide
meaningful opportunities for all tourism stakeholders. She commented, "I
look forward to fulfilling the goals which we have previously set out for
the Tourism Board. With Valerie as Permanent Secretary, I'm confident
there will be the understanding of our challenges that is so needed
there."
"Mrs. Smith brings with her a deep understanding
of the tourism industry," commented
Minister Mark Espat. "In her capacity as Director of Tourism she was able
to restore confidence in this industry and ensure that the proper
structure and policies are in place to accelerate future tourism
growth."
Anthony Mahler, currently Senior Product Development
Officer, has been designated as Deputy Director for Product Development
while Nicole E. Usher has been appointed Deputy Director for Marketing
and Public Relations. Former Tourism Permanent Secretary, Marion McNab,
